Sports Medicine
Sports injuries are a common and unfortunate side effect of keeping an active lifestyle, and can occur whether you are an amateur or professional athlete. Sports medicine is not just limited to treating injuries as it can be used as a preventative method too.
Allied Health Support and Sports Medicine
The majority of sports injuries resolve with the simple rest and ice (RICE) method, where for the first 48 hours you rest a soft tissue injury and apply ice for 20 minutes every two hours to help reduce pain and swelling.
However, if an injury persists, involves a suspected fracture, or causes severe pain, then a medical review is warranted with relevant imaging and appropriate referrals being organised. These injuries may require treatment by a doctor specialising in sports medicine in order to optimise performance and reduce long term effects.
